SUMMER SOLSTICE SING AT BRIGHTON

The Summer Solstice, the longest day of sunlight, has been observed in many different ways, by many Indigenous cultures across the planet, including here in Adelaide.

Allegria decided it was time to join the celebrations by singing to the setting sun with our feet in the lapping waves of Brighton Beach.

Allegria sang “A Solstice Chant” based on a medieval pagan Chant  , ”Welcome to all People” by Ruby Hunter and “ Sing You up my Country “ composed by the fabulous Rachel Hore.

It was a beautiful, moving experience, singing to the Universe !  This was our first public performance for nearly 2 years thanks to the Covid19 Restrictions.  We would love to repeat this ceremony with perhaps a dawn chorus on December 22nd 2022

Perhaps we’ll even sing on top of Mt Lofty to mark the Winter Solstice.

PS  quite a few of the passersby thought we were singing for a funeral service!  Oh well!!
